Once Human is ramping up in 2026

Once Human has been going through a particularly busy period since its PC launch in July 2024. Between a major update, a complete overhaul of its progression system, and the long-awaited announcement of a console beta, Starry Studio has clearly decided to shift into high gear. Here is everything you need to know about the game as of March 2026.

Update 2.3.4 is live

Update 2.3.4 was deployed on March 11 following scheduled maintenance starting at 4:00 AM Pacific Time and lasting approximately two hours. At first glance, it looks like a standard patch: bug fixes, balance adjustments, and improved mod drop rates. In reality, it serves more as a prelude to a much larger structural overhaul planned for later in the month.

The centerpiece of the patch notes is a preview of upcoming changes to Starchrom and blueprint acquisition, alongside new Custom Server features and improvements to mod drop rates. As compensation for the downtime, all players received 1,000 Starchrom, 100 Mitsuko’s Mark, 300 Starwish Token, 30 Colorful Badge, and three Mod Compensation Crates, each granting a random mod between level 14 and 17.

On the balance side, the Invincible Sun Deviation was reworked. Its direct damage multiplier was raised from 900% to 1,100%, but the fire zone duration was reduced from 10 to 8 seconds and the rate at which burn stacks apply was adjusted to reduce the server load it generated in multiplayer scenarios.

Blueprint Overhaul

This is probably the most impactful news of the month for regular players. Starry Studio acknowledged that the current blueprint system is too restrictive, too complex, and difficult for new players to understand, largely because of the fragment-pulling mechanic tied to the Wish Machine.

Starting with the March 25 patch, blueprints will be unlockable directly from the Blueprint screen using Starchrom, with no need to pull and combine fragments. Both weapons and armor will be available this way, at a variable cost depending on the item type.

The Wish Machine is not going away permanently. It will be taken offline after March 25 and relaunched in a revised form on April 22. In its new version, it will offer rewards tied to in-game activities rather than consuming Starchrom. The stated goal is to preserve the appeal of random reward systems while decoupling them from the main premium currency. That is a meaningful concession to a community that has been vocal about the grind.

The console closed beta opens March 26

This is the announcement many players have been waiting for. Once Human is launching a closed beta on PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series X and S for North America and Europe. Pre-download starts March 24 at 7:00 PM PT, servers go live on March 26, and close on April 9.

The scenario featured during the beta is Manibus. Players who reach level 20 during the test period will earn the Abyssal Dragon Set and the Dragon Dance-KAM cosmetic as permanent rewards. Xbox applications go through the Xbox Insider program, and test codes will be distributed on March 22 through the official console-dedicated Discord channels.

Cross-play is confirmed from day one of the beta. The console release will make Once Human fully cross-platform, allowing players on console, PC, and mobile to share the same servers under the same account. For a game that leans so heavily on its social and guild systems, this is a defining step.

What the rest of 2026 has in store

Starry Studio laid out its broader vision for the year in early January under the banner “The Year of the Monsters.” The roadmap includes new scenarios, new Deviations, fresh challenges, visual upgrades, and more narrative and PvE content throughout the year.

The first new scenario will be a PvE island chapter featuring multiple distinct islands, each with its own set of challenges. Aquatic survival mechanics and nautical vehicles are part of the package. A collaboration with the Chinese novel X (10) Days Till the End was also mentioned, though no release window has been given yet.

Patch 2.3.2 and its seasonal content from February already laid solid groundwork. The Spring Festival Island was accessible directly from the open world and offered daily activities, seasonal rewards, and a permanent vehicle skin to unlock before the event ended on March 11.

The bigger picture

Once Human enters March 2026 with steady and undeniable momentum. The progression system overhaul addresses one of the community’s main criticisms. The console beta signals a genuine expansion of the player base. And the annual roadmap reflects a studio that knows where it wants to take the game, rather than simply reacting as it goes.

What remains to be seen is whether the console version will manage to recreate the excitement that drew over ten million players to the PC release. The coming weeks will be key to answering that question.
